Excursion |
Date: 3-4 September, 2005 Pick-up: Outside Edgewoth David Bldg, F05 @ 7:30am. A good opportunity to look at some of the rocks studied in class in their 'natural environment'. What are these? Here are a selection of rocks/formations you'll see on the trip - what might they be?? |

Optional Excursions |
New Zealand - February 10 - 23, 2006 An excellent, but optional excursion. Includes students going into 2nd year and those going into 3rd year. Examine the exciting and active examples of developing geology! Volcanoes, mountain building, faults, glaciers, the dramatic and dymanic geology of New Zealand. The trip involves 4 days in/on/and around the volcanoes of the North Island, examining some of the most explosive volcanic features the world has experienced! The South Island allows us to explore the structure and processes involved in mountain building and uplift and their inevitable destruction by surface processes. Mt Cook, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Mt. Fox. Step(literally) across the boundary seperating the Pacific Plate and the Australian Plate. Socialise with the locals, each other and staff. The modern analogues which New Zealands dynamic geology provide are a priceless asset for your understanding of the processes which have shaped and controlled the planet throughout time. Cost: $850.00. All accommodation and transport. $1500 covers everything (food, accom, transport and airfares). Holidays: Airfares are arranged independantly, because past excursions have shown that many students have a holiday in NZ before or after the trip.
